Lebaran Betawi

After undergoing Shawwal fasting, the community, especially the Betawi people, again gathered with relatives. The atmosphere of warmth, when gathered, was packed into the second Lebaran for the Betawi people.

According to, Syaiful Amri, Head of the Administrative Division of the Betawi Cultural Village Area Management Unit (UPK) Setu Babakan who is also the researcher of the Betawi culture, the second Lebaran culture conducted by the Betawi people is a tradition passed down through generations.

"The first origin is that the Betawi people used to be a crowd after the fasting of Shawwal because the Betawi people if today Eid al-Fitr is due to fast for Shawwal the next day. After the fasting of Shawwal, celebrate the second Eid day," he said

Seeing the tradition disappeared due to development, making the DKI Jakarta government at that time brought the leadership of Fauzi Bowo to revive the second Eid, called Lebaran Betawi.

"Because the gathering is no longer there because it is far away, so I have an idea, Mr Fauzi Bowo, the Governor at that time made the Lebaran Betawi be public" he explained.

Syaiful then continued that the Lebaran Betawi was carried out around the city.

"In the past, the Betawi Eid carried out by the Bamus went around. If in South Jakarta in Ragunan, in the North, it was held at Pantai Indah Kapuk, in West Jakarta in front of the Mayor. It depends on who will host the food, etc. Now Eid "Betawi will be held continuously at Setu Babakan," he explained.

All Betawi arts, culture and culinary arts will be held at the event.
